The Importance of an Involved Parent

The attached link is to the new study done by the California Charter School Association comparing charter schools with nearby comparable public LAUSD schools. The study seems to show that the charter schools outperform the public school in most metrics. We here at TCI don't find that hard to believe. It would seem that most children who are attending charter schools have parents that are involved and concerned about their child's education. Where you find a involved and concerned parent, you will find a child progressing at or above grade level. You can scream and shout about teacher and school accountability. But, until you have parent accountability you will always have children who under perform.

In all fairness, this is just one comparison. There should be additional studies done to confirm these findings. But, this could serve as an opportunity for both the public and charter schools to share best practices.
